Andy Byron, the CEO of data technology firm Astronomer, has officially stepped down from his role after a video of him at a Coldplay concert went viral, triggering a social media storm and an internal investigation by the company.

The clip, which surfaced late Wednesday, came out during Coldplay’s live show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

A kiss cam focused on Byron, who appeared his arms around a woman in the crowd. As soon as the camera zoomed in on them and their faces appeared on the stadium’s giant screen, both quickly pulled away from each other and tried to hide their faces.

The awkward moment didn’t go unnoticed, not by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, nor by the internet. Martin, watching the scene unfold on the jumbotron, humorously commented from the stage, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

The crowd laughed, but for Andy Byron, the moment would have serious consequences far beyond the arena.

Soon after, social media users identified the pair in the video. Online speculation suggested that the woman seen with Byron was Kristin Cabot, who reportedly serves as the Head of Human Resources at Astronomer.

The clip spread rapidly, racking up tens of millions of views across platforms and igniting debates about professional conduct and corporate culture.

By Friday, Astronomer’s Board of Directors had issued a formal statement confirming Byron’s resignation. The company acknowledged that the viral incident led to an internal review, prompting swift action from leadership.

“As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the company said in its official release, quoted by ‘Variety’. “Our leaders should set the standard in both conduct and accountability. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.”

The statement also clarified that Pete DeJoy, the company’s Co-founder and Chief Product Officer, will step in as interim CEO while a search for Byron’s replacement is underway.
